Kevin Garland

Kevin Garland
Passed away this morning, July 20th, 2008 from Alzheimer disease at age 52.
He was a patient of the
Woodridge Park Nursing Home in Commerce City
Kevin began working at Rocky Flats as a Security Guard but later transferred to the Steelworkers and became a RCT. He later worked as a RCT Forman and Manager. After lay offs he returned to work at Rocky Flats as a Guard.
People who knew Kevin said that he was well liked by all, and that he had a great since of humor.
Three generations of the Garland family members worked at Rocky Flats.
His Father, Gene Garland who is deceased.
His Bother Kirk Garland, who was a Guard, now works at Oak Ridge as a Guard.
His Nephew Jason Easter worked as a D& D worker
He is survived by his mother Judy, brother Kirk, sister Kim and her husband Ron Easter and their two children, son Jason and daughter Libby Easter
Please remember Kevin and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Kevin Garland

Was a RCT Forman and Manager in most of the process building at Rocky Flats. Age 52, has been battling Alzheimer disease and not expected to live past this week.
He is currently at:

Scott Wagner visits Don Claimont in Colorado


On a recent vacation to Colorado I saw alot of old friends from the Flats; Don Clairmont, Pete and Jason Ramos, Cecil and Virginia Richburg, Bob and Rose Mary Badovinic, and Larry Eberly. It was so good to see everyone again. I'm looking forward to making a Guards breakfast next year.

Job Description: Ideal candidate will have previous experience as an officer in a Corporate Security Department and will be knowledgeable on the private industry corporate culture and best practices. This person will assist with ensuring proper implementation, monitoring and compliance with all security standards, systems and practices set forth, and be responsible for assisting with the overall implementation of security and emergency plans, into the daily operations. The person in this position will be responsible for effectively monitoring security related systems (EMS, FAMS, SACS/ FAS) and operation of security console to include CCTV equipment. Execution of routine patrols, vehicle inspections, etc. Other tasks, as assigned by the Lead Officer, Lieutenant—Supervisor and/or the Chief of Protective Services. The highest levels of integrity, ethics and judgment are required for this position. In addition, this person must display an ability to be proactive in their duties.
Special Skills Required:

Must successfully meet minimum requirements for passing an annual physical agility test and initial medical exam. Meet and maintain firearms qualification, PPCT Defensive Tactics certification, CPR, First Aid and AED certifications. Must qualify for, and maintain, a Michigan Concealed Pistols License (C.C.W.). Must be knowledgeable on the current principles and practices in corporate security & emergency management operations. Experience working in a 24/7/365 day operation.

Educational Requirement: HS Diploma & work experience required. (Associates Degree in Business, Criminal Justice, or related preferred).

Ken is on US soil

Ken just called from Ft. Bragg, he is on U.S. soil again. He sounded really good, very happy. He should be back in Denver next week, either the 14, 15 or 16. They are trying to get the entire unit on one flight so that we can have a big airport celebration.

Ken Craig

As of 3 a.m. this morning, Ken is out of Iraq. He is in Kuwait going through customs and then will fly to Ft. Bragg for about 1 - 2 weeks, then home for good. Thank you all for keeping him in your prayers, he felt them and they clearly worked.
